Open Day on Erding Airfield
In Erding in the north-east of Munich maintenance facilities for the Panavia Tornado and all turbo-engines used by the Luftwaffe are located. 
 
Order of Luftwaffenwerft 11 is to maintain, overhaul and repair the turbojet-engines of the flying weapon systems Tornado and F-4F Phantom and the turboshaft-engines of the Bell UH-1D and Bo-105 helicopters.
 
Luftwaffenwerft 13 carries out the major overhaul on Tornado aircraft after about 2800 hours in flight. The maintenance activities during these overhaul takes about eight months and contains: removing the painting, taking the aircraft into pieces, checking the airframe, wings and stabilizers, fighting corrosion, checking hydraulic, electronic and avionic systems and other major aircraft components like landing gear, fuel tanks and pipes, ejector seats, guns and other weapon systems, ... 
 
The Erding airfield is used only for maintenance flights.

50 Luftwaffe Alpha Jet survived in the trainer role. One of them shows these colorful painting. It was the last aircraft from the JaBoG (fighter bomber squadron) 49 and shows now the sign of the Fluglehrgruppe (flight school) Fuerstenfeldbruck.
In the past the Luftwaffe made use of Beja air base in Portugal for pilot training. The pictures are from the 80ies. Portugal later got the Beja Alpha Jets when the Germans closed their training facilities there.

The JaboG 32 Lechfeld presented an ECR-Tornado in its 1996 Tigermeet-painting. The Tornado also shows the Einsatzgeschwader 1 sign on the intakes. The aircraft was stationed in Piacenca, Italy for IFOR missions over Bosnia.
